Tersane-i Amire, which was put into operation with several main slipways in 1455 by order of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han (Fatih the Conqueror) after the conquest of İstanbul, has become one of the most important maritime center in the world with construction bench in Haliç, equipment and material lockers, pools, barracks, sail sewing stations and also with its dungeons. Haliç Shipyards has been essential in every era as an industry center in which west technique and modern science was practiced first time in Ottoman Empire. 
In 1571, after Ottoman Navy, which was returning from the conquest of Cyprus, was burned by Crusaders’ Navy in Inebahtı, in a very short time like 5 months in the spring of 1572 it had been achieved the appearance of Ottoman Navy with its majesty in the Mediterranean Sea by building of more than 150 galleys in Haliç Shipyards.
For the memory of Haliç Shipyards, which have continued to practice in the sector of ship building from the day of its establishment to present day and have brought important marks of the maritime history, the first day cover and commemorative block with “Haliç Tersaneleri (Tersane-i Amire)” theme was issued on 11.12.2015.
